Second Chances for a Stronger Workforce: Film Screening, Resource Fair & Panel
July 25 @ 5:00 pm - 8:30 pm
Join local leaders, employers and advocates for a screening of “Being Free,” a groundbreaking documentary from Roadtrip Nation that follows three formerly incarcerated Americans as they transition back into their communities and the workforce.
Guests will hear opening remarks from Dr. Kendall Taylor of Salute 1st, and the screening will be followed by a discussion among business and community leaders from across Charlotte, including Patrice Funderburg of the Center for Community Transitions, Erik Ortega of Mecklenburg County’s Department of Community Resources, Cynthia Bailey of Atrium Health, Traletta Banks of Another Level Staffing, and Ken Oliver of Checkr.
Mary C. Curtis, a renowned journalist and podcast host at Roll Call and Slate, will moderate the discussion.
Following the panel discussion, we will host a resource fair for formerly incarcerated individuals returning to the workforce. Participating organizations include Mecklenburg County Re-Entry Services & Council, the Center for Community Transitions, the Center for Employment Opportunities, Atrium Health, Rockwell Development Center, Goodwill, the Urban League, Central Piedmont Community College, Charlotte Community Health Clinic, Another Level Staffing LLC, The Center for Digital Equity, and Common Wealth Charlotte. This page will be updated as additional participants are confirmed.
We look forward to an evening of reflection and impact that will encourage community members to recognize the potential of fair chance hiring and offer meaningful pathways to prosperity for those impacted by the justice system.
