Understanding the Center for Digital Equity (CDE)

Digital equity means that every community has the necessary technology skills and tools to take part fully in our society, democracy, and economy. Lack of internet access and adoption, a working device, and basic computer literacy skills place people at a disadvantage and prevent fully participating in a digitalized world.

The CDE acts as a convener, bringing together residents and public and private sector partners to co-create solutions that advance digital equity. The Community Council is organized across 5 workstreams:

  1. Policy, Advocacy, and Ecosystem Development
  2. Data, Program Measurement, and Research
  3. Device and Connectivity
  4. Digital Navigation and Technical Support
  5. Digital Literacy and Skilling

This collective impact strategy is anchored by the Digital Navigator Service that works to increase adoption of critically-needed technology, computers, and digital skilling at no-cost. The CDE is also comprised of full-time staff who operate from Queens University of Charlotte.
