News for Building Black Community
Journalism affects how leaders craft policies and determine their priorities. The stories told about us today become the history told about us in the future.
For Black Charlotteans, this dynamic is more crucial than ever.
Let’s discuss: Join an interactive small-group discussion between Black journalists and community members on June 1 in Charlotte.
Event details:
What: News for Building Black Community
When: Sat., June 1, from 3:30-5 p.m. (doors open at 3pm, refreshments will be served)
Where: Piedmont Unitarian Universalist Church, 9704 Mallard Creek Road, Charlotte
This gathering grew out of a series of workshops on the future of local news that Free Press’ News Voices team hosted in partnership with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Library.
This is NOT a panel discussion. This event is an opportunity for community members to engage in direct conversation with local journalists on how local news can build and strengthen Black community in Charlotte.
Come out on June 1 and share your perspective. Join the conversation to determine what’s needed and how we can build together.
Let’s dream and shape the future of Charlotte news.
Note: This conversation is meant to prioritize and center Black voices. It’s a space for Blackness of all nationalities, religions, ages, abilities, genders and sexualities. It’s a space to build Black community. If this doesn’t represent your racial identity, please share with others for whom it may.
